“The Acts of the Apostles: Peter and John”
Bible Text: Acts 3:1-26 | Preacher: Pastor Mark Verbruggen | Series: The Acts of the Apostles | In our reading today, the apostles Peter and John heal a man who was lame from birth. In the powerful Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, they raise the man to his feet and he begins walking and jumping and praising God. It’s amazing! So, why do we not see such miraculous things
today? If we have faith, can we heal the blind, the sick, and the lame? Probably not. Miracles are not some “magic” that can be done by following a certain formula or using certain words. The apostles did not have the ability to perform a miracle for every person and situation that called for one. Why? Because the miracles are never really the point. Miracles are signposts that point to a greater reality which Christ came to proclaim: the
unfolding Kingdom of God. Behind the miracle in Acts 3:1-10 is the Gospel of the Kingdom that is proclaimed in verses 11-23. We need to hear both halves of Acts 3. Right after the miracle, Peter preaches a Christ-centered sermon to explain it and call us to something greater. Let’s
hear the Word of God!
