Christmas: Christ is Born!
Bible Text: Luke 2: 1-20 | Preacher: Pastor Mark Verbruggen | Series: Christmas Eve | The words of the Christmas story are both familiar and comforting. In a year when everything is upside down and nothing seems to be the way it is supposed to be, the Christmas Gospel is good news of great joy that is for all who hear it in faith. As we enter this story once again, we will consider the first sermon that was preached on the night when Jesus was born. It was proclaimed by the angel who said to the shepherds, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Literally the sermon begins with two words that set the whole theme: “Fear not!” Two small words announce a gospel that brings an end to all our fears.
